Greetings from a Completely Fed Up Conservative Xenophobic SUV Owner Of West Texas.
As I have always tried to point out, while I might be forced to cast a vote for Donald Trump since he should he be the nominee,  it will actually be a vote AGAINST  either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders.

In my opinion we have the Republican National Committee and the Establishment Republican Elected Officials playing nice with the Democrat/Progressive/Socialist Elected Officials from the Democrat Party to thank for the complete screwed up mess currently in place in Washington, D.C.
I know that Donald Trump has a commanding lead insofar as getting the Republican nomination, particularly after Ted Cruz suspended his campaign after the loss in Indiana.  I also have grown pretty weary of much of his behavior during this campaign.  BUT, I listened to an audio of "The Donald" earlier on Tuesday speaking to some FOX News people and "The Donald" made a statement about a "NEWS REPORT" which had come to his attention which told the story of the Father of Ted Cruz meeting with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's death which occurred following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  There was a photo taken in August of 1963 in which it appears to show Lee Harvey Oswald handing out pamphlets in New Orleans which was some three months prior to President Kennedy's assassination in Dallas.  There were several other males in this photo and some alleged photo expert said that one of the men in the photo had "More Similarities than Dissimilarities" with Rafael Cruz.  This photo was taken 53 years ago and I am not sure whether that the man allegedly identified by THE NATIONAL  ENQUIRER as Rafael  Cruz or someone else.
In any event, "The Donald" relying on THE NATIONAL  ENQUIRER as a valid news source is somewhat bizarre in my view.  Then to top it off, after viewing some Trump Supporters acting like Black Lives Matter members in trying to shout down  Ted Cruz I heard "The Donald" make the statement that those supporters were actually VERY SMART  PEOPLE and that THE  GOVERNMENT  HAD  JUST  NOT  DONE A  GOOD  JOB  OF TAKING  CARE  OF  THEM.
As I have said before, I do not like Donald Trump...... I do not believe that Donald Trump has looking after the best interests of the American People or The United States as his primary function as President ...... I do not believe that Donald Trump really cares about ANYONE or ANYTHING that does not promote his image or his wealth.
Earlier  I heard an endorsement from a former coach whom I like quite a bit,  Lou Holtz.   Lou Holtz  said that among the reasons for his endorsement of Donald Trump was that he had PLAYED  AT  TRUMP'S  GOLF  COURSES and HAD  STAYED  IN  TRUMP'S  HOTELS.  OK. Let's see if I have this straight.  I have driven through Arkansas but that does not mean that I supported Bill Clinton or Mike Huckabee.   I have listened to a radio station in Austin, Texas which was owned by Lyndon B. Johnson but I did not support him.  If I am going to support a candidate, I have to believe that he/she will do the best job for the elected position.   I also have to believe that there is at least some degree of honesty in that person and at this point, I believe that Donald Trump has lied to all of us.   While I believe Donald Trump has lied..... I  KNOW  HILLARY  CLINTON  HAS  LIED.  So, if "The Donald" is picked to be the opposition of Hillary Clinton in the general election,  I will drink a huge shot of MAALOX prior to going to the polls and take some type of drug to settle my stomach after I vote.
I watched Ted Cruz last evening when he announced the suspension of his campaign and thought that he actually sounded much more Presidential than Trump has sounded at any point in this campaign.   One of the main reasons I had supported Ted Cruz is based upon him being truthful to the voters of Texas in his actions in the Senate.   And I believe that my support was justified by seeing how Mitch McConnell and John Boehner and a few more Senators and Congressmen have shown their true colors in fighting Ted Cruz at every turn.  The fact that he did not cave in to the Washington Establishment speaks volumes about his character.
My final question is at what point will John Kasich wake up?   Perhaps never?
Does it strike anyone as a bit unusual for Donald Trump yesterday morning to be calling Ted Cruz "Lyin' Ted" and accuse Cruz's father of somehow being in league with Lee Harvey Oswald just prior to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and then last night after Ted Cruz suspended his campaign talked about what a smart man and tough campaigner Cruz was?

I'm sorry folks but I cannot think of a person for whom I had an intense dislike yesterday morning did not hold their same place in my thoughts last night.

Last week I got an e-mail which was some video put out by Gatorade which showed a number of individuals who had received hand written letters from Peyton Manning.  They included his Dad, Archie Manning;    his Brother, Eli Manning;  Former Professional and College Coaches;   Present and former Teammates;  an ESPN Sports Announcer who has been diagnoses with throat cancer;  The Mother of a young man who died as the result of cancer;  Former N.Y. Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter;  and one in particular to a former NFL Draftee who said that after he had been drafted as a wide receiver by the Indianapolis Colt who said that after he had been drafted, Peyton Manning drove up to Ohio several times to help him learn the playbook.
I have always admired Peyton Manning not only as one of the absolute best NFL Quarterbacks EVER, but also for the class he has always shown on the field and off.  I enjoyed all of his commercials and was plenty happy to see his team win the Super Bowl for his final game.  It doesn't matter what position he played, but just think about playing 18 years in any contact sport and being able to go out on top.
Going back to when I first began watching professional football, there have been a number of players who have stood out in my eyes at the quarterback position not only for their athletic ability but even more so as real leaders of their teams:

Bobby Layne,  Bob Waterfield,  Otto Graham, George Blanda,  Norm Van Brocklin, Fran Tarkenton , Christian Adolph Jurgensen (Sonny),  Billy Kilmer,   Don Meredith,  Roger Staubach,  Johnny Unitas,  Bart Starr,  Y.A. Tittle,  Ken Stabler,  Dan Marino,  Jim Kelly,  Joe Montana,  Tom Brady,  John Elway, Peyton Manning

Yes, I know I have left some off who were great quarterbacks, but at the time I was not seeing them or I did not like them for one reason or another.  And please spare me the observation that Joe Namath is not on the list.  I personally never liked him when he was quarterback at Alabama and liked him even less when he was the quarterback for the New York Jets.  And I have seen his famous GUARANTEE  played way too many times.  What really soured me on Joe Willie Namath was some of his antics  before TV cameras  when he was not playing football.  But who is the best of all times?   Purely subjective and of course due to rule changes and a number of other factors it is rather hard to compare quarterbacks in the Unitas, Layne, Tittle, Van Brocklin, Blanda eras as there was open season on hitting the quarterback.  And, of course, I did get to see all of these guys play whereas I never got to watch Sammy Baugh play AND he was probably the BEST all round player ever.  I believe he still holds the season punting average or perhaps even the lifetime punting average AND he set one record which will more than likely NEVER be broken.  In one game he threw FOUR  TOUCHDOWN  PASSES  AND  INTERCEPTED  FOUR  PASSES.  Also in one season he led the league in Passing;  Punting;  and Interceptions.  He was one tough old customer.

BUT I cannot think of a classier individual in sports than Peyton Manning.
Last Saturday morning I was listening to a sports show on the radio and the two radio show hosts were interviewing over the telephone, Case Keenum, who has been named as the starting quarterback of the Los Angeles Rams.  Of course I remember Case Keenum from his high school days when he played for the Abilene Wiley Bulldogs.  He was a multi-sport athlete in high school but decided to stick with football and attended the University of Houston where he played for four years and had an outstanding college career.  He has played for several NFL teams and is presently with the Los Angeles Rams.    LOS  ANGELES  RAMS..... damn, that sure sound more correct than St. Louis Rams.
Anyway,  I have heard Keenum speak on several occasions and have found him to also be a class act.  He is a religious young man and when he spoke of  his present coach with The Rams, he always referred to him as "Coach Fisher" and not Jeff.  As you can tell by my previous list, I am pretty old school and I cannot imagine any of the Green Bay Packers  back in the 1960's calling Coach Lombardi,  "Vince".   As a matter of fact I saw a couple of the old Packers interviewed recently and they STILL refer to him as "Coach Lombardi".  Can you imagine an Indiana basketball player calling Coach Knight, "Bobby"?   I think not.  It is a sign of respect which is a quality that our society as a whole lacks today.  I sincerely hope that Case Keenum has a good year as the Rams' quarterback.  I just have to pull for an old Abilene boy.
I feel pretty sure that all of you have, at one time or another, seen the mini-series;  Lonesome Dove.  It is one of my all time favorite Westerns and featured one of my all time favorite actors, Robert Duvall.  Being an avid fan I had stayed away from watching Return To Lonesome Dove for several years.  HOWEVER,  a couple of days back they showed parts 1 and 2 on one night and parts 3 and 4 on the following night.  I caught every single minute of the mini-series and came away with a real respect for the folks who made this sequel.  The movie had several of the same actors who played in the first movie.  Of course Robert Duvall was killed in the first one and Tommy Lee Jones played the role of Woodrow F. Call.  In the sequel Woodrow F. Call was played by Jon Voight who did an outstanding job.  Ricky Schroeder played Newt in both movies and Timothy Scott played Pea Eye Parker as he had in the first and Chris Cooper played July Johnson as he had in the original .  Several of the cowboys were also in both.  BUT, for those of you who have not seen  the sequel,  be sure and watch it when it makes a return.  This Return To Lonesome Dove is not based on any of the McMurtry novels but is based upon the characters created in several of his novels.  Recently I also watched Comanche Moon which was about Call and McCrae in their younger days and also The Streets of Laredo which had James Garner as Woodrow Call.  All of these Westerns are worth watching.
