Greetings once again from the West Texas Association For Jingoistic Fossil Fuel Burning SUV Drivers.
I have attended a number of retirements for a number of people from different walks of life:  Police Officers,  Fire Fighters,  Teachers,  Administrators,  Coaches,  Sales Persons and many others.  I have also watched a number of retirement announcements from regular folks and from super stars.  But on Monday, I watched the retirement announcement of Peyton Manning and pretty much decided that he showed just about as much class as anyone I had ever seen.  It was very easy to tell that he would miss many things about his career in Professional Football.
In a small way, I could relate to what he said.  Even though I was ready to retire from Law Enforcement after my 38 years in the Houston, Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico areas, I knew that what I would miss the most was the friends and associations I had made over these years.  Of course within a few months I returned back to work part time with the Lea County Sheriff's Department and the Region VI Drug Task Force for another 7 years.  My reason for returning, however, was not the work itself but rather being part of a team or a unit and doing something that I had enjoyed all of my adult life.
Peyton Manning made reference to the fact that what he would miss the most was his association with not only his team mates but also doing some of the simple things with some of the non playing team personnel.  And what I thought showed the real class of Peyton Manning was the fact that he had contacted every one of his past coaches who were still alive to thank them for what they had done for him over the years.  And it was really easy to tell just how revered he was by his team mates by the number of them who traveled many miles to be with him on the day he announced his retirement.
On the day of my retirement party in Hobbs, New Mexico, I was surprised by my daughter and three of my grand children who drove in from Lake City, Colorado to be with me.  Also one of my all time best friends and former partner, Peary Perry flew in from Houston to be present.  I will never forget that day.
Even after I became pretty disenchanted with the NFL as a whole, I always enjoyed watching any game in which Peyton Manning was quarterbacking one of the teams.  I always enjoyed watching him completely screw with the minds of the defensive players.  And I always thought it showed tons of class on his part by the way he acted on the sidelines when his defense was on the field.  He was constantly busy looking at photos and talking with his receivers and coaches.
Everything he did in practice,  in meetings,  and  during the game was directed at making his team better and successful.  He said at his retirement announcement that there may have been other players with more speed and stronger arms and better talent BUT that he thought that no one beat him in preparation.  And I believe that also as well as his team mates and his coaches past and present.
I will still watch the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots because I believe those organizations also have the same type of class as does Peyton Manning.  But the game without Manning will be a little less fun to watch.   If  Peyton Manning was not the Best Of All Times, he is darn sure amongst 'em.
Actually this was fairly easy.  As far as I am concerned the National Republican Party Leadership is SECOND  CLASS  all the way down the line.  The Republican National Committee  along  with the Republican Leadership (or lack of same) in both the Senate and the House  help keep  the National Republican Party in not only a Second Class statues BUT are  rapidly leading this national political party down the road to destruction.

While I do not particularly like Donald Trump, it is a small wonder that many former loyal Republicans are jumping ship for no other reason than the National Republican Party and the Establishment Democrat Party are damn near interchangeable.
It was fairly obvious from the beginning that the Washington Establishment Republicans wanted Jeb Bush as their candidate.  But it was also fairly obvious from the beginning that Jeb Bush along with many of the other Establishment favorites  were.... as we say in  Texas..... "pissin' inta tha wind".   A self centered egotist like "The Donald" could never have gotten off the ground had it not been for the self centered selfishness of the National Republican Establishment.
Perhaps Karl Rove should have made more personal appearances with his little chalk board so that he could show us stupid conservatives just how things should be.  For my money, Karl Rove can shove his chalk board up his backside.
I have said in the past that I would never vote for "The Donald"  and I will stick with that statement..... If Trump is the Republican nominee, I will not be voting FOR him, BUT I will be voting against Hillary.... and this is the only way I can live with myself knowing that checking the Trump box is actually a vote AGAINST  Hillary Clinton.
Of course, I still believe that if "The Donald" gets the nomination that the medial will turn the dogs loose and begin to cut Trump's legs out from underneath him.  As far as I am concerned, Donald Trump falls into the SECOND CLASS category right along with the Establishment Republican Party.
But,  I guess that SECOND  CLASS is still ahead of  THIRD CLASS which is the niche into which Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders fall.

"Perhaps most important of all, there are signs that -- if push comes to shove -- the Republican establishment would prefer Trump himself to Ted Cruz.  Why?  Because, despite Trump's reckless rhetoric and shallow reasoning, he is a deal-maker who will not let principles stand in the way of anything that promotes the ego of Donald Trump.".............. THOMAS  SOWELL
"Senator Cruz, on the other hand, has repeatedly defied the Republican leadership in the Senate.  Whatever the merits or lack of merits of his actions in particular cases, he has clearly shown himself not to be one of those who go along to get along."..............  THOMAS  SOWELL
"According to the Washington Post, record numbers of college students say that they plan to engage in protests.  Our educational system may not teach students much math or science, but students learn from gutless academic administrators that mob rule is the way to get what you want  -- and to silence those who disagree  with  you."............ "Last Saturday morning I turned on the ESPN Sports program BEFORE the two stupid ladies came on to discuss the eating habits of super models or some other equally interesting non sporting event and much to my surprise were two of the regular guys.  AND were they discussing College Basketball?  No.  Or perhaps College Baseball?  No.  Or perhaps  the NFL Scouting Combine?  No.  They were discussing the terribly interesting subject of WOMEN'S  BOXING.  Now, I don't know about the rest of you but since the regular men's boxing championships have pretty much all gone the "Pay Per View" route, I have stopped watching boxing of any sort.  And, NO, I do not consider the Ultimate Fighting Champion shows as boxing.
I grew up in the 1940s and 1950s  when boxing was on the radio and was first shown on television.  On television they had the "Blue Ribbon Bouts" which was usually on Wednesday nights and sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer.  Then on Friday nights was the "Gillette Cavalcade Of Sports" which was sponsored by Gillette Razor Blades.
During those 1950s bouts I watched some of the absolute greatest fighters and champions of all times.  I can remember  Kid Gavilan who was Welterweight Champion at the time along with Carmen Basilio, Tony DeMarco, and several more really good welterweights.   Sugar  Ray Robinson was the middleweight champion during some of that period and of course we had Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott and Rocky Marciano in the heavyweight division.  Joey Maxim was beaten by Archie Moore for the light heavyweight championship.
Then in the 1960s and 1970s and even into the 1980s there were some really great fighters and champions.  I can remember in the featherweight division, one of my all time favorite fighters was champion for awhile in the 1970s in the featherweight division.  His name was was Danny "Little Red" Lopez.  This was one of the toughest guys I ever saw.  He would get knocked around and generally receive one or more cuts through the first 9 or 10 rounds and then he went to work and generally won by a knockout.

Also during that time frame in the Super Featherweight Division there was a champion named Bobby Chacon.  He was involved in several memorable fights during his career with two other fighters.  Rafael "Bazooka" Limon and an African born fighter who was raised in England I believe by adopted parents.  His name was Cornelius Boza Edwards.  Those three fought each other and FINALLY in a year's time Bobby Chacon defeated both, "Bazooka" Limon and Cornelius Boza Edwards in a couple of the best fights I have ever watched.
The middleweight champion during some of those years was one of the absolute best fighters I ever saw.  Carlos Monzon from Argentina.   Between fights he would be shown dressed up in a suit and tie and he was a really nice looking person.  BUT on the day of the fight, he would lose a bunch of weight to get down to 160 pounds and looked like the Frankenstein Monster..... fought like him too.  Monzon beat some of the best middleweights ever.  He defeated Emile Griffith twice.  I would like to have seen Monzon and Ray Robinson hook it up when they were both in their prime.
AND, I was fortunate enough to be able to see, in my opinion, the greatest fight of all times took place in 1958 in the Montreal Forum in Montreal, Quebec.  It was for the light heavyweight championship between challenger, Yvonne Durelle and champion Archie Moore.  Moore was knocked down 4 times in the early rounds and Durelle went down 4 times in the later rounds and was knocked out in the 11th round.  ANYONE who watched that fight will tell you that it was the absolute best ever.
Of course I got to watch Rocky Marciano his entire career.  He landed the single best punch ever when he knocked out Jersey Joe Walcott in 1952 to win the heavyweight championship.  I was fortunate enough to be able to watch that fight and all of Marciano's championship fights including his final fight in 1955 when he knocked out Archie Moore.  I will never forget the interview after that fight when some idiot boxing reporter asked Archie Moore, "which punch hurt you the most?"  To which Moore replied,  "ALL  OF 'EM".  And that I could believe.

It is sad that the sport of boxing has been turned into the spectacle that it is today.  AND it is even sadder to think that one of the main topics on a Saturday morning sports station is Women's Boxing Champions.
I am sure that most of you are aware that March is "Women's History Month".  One of the women honored was English novelist Mary  Wollstonecraft Shelley.  I am pretty sure that many of today's "MILLENNIALS" would have no hint as to who this lady was.  BUT since I grew up and went to several institutes of public education before the government screwed it up completely, I have known since I was a small child about Mary Shelley.  She, of course, is the lady who wrote one of the most famous novels of terror,  FRANKENSTEIN, which was published in  1818.  She also wrote the apocalyptic novel,  The Last Man which was published in 1826.  Of course there have been many film adaptations of Mary Shelley's novels but few have followed the plot of her writings...... AND as  we  all know,  Boris Karloff WAS  THE  FRANKENSTEIN  MONSTER.... Well it was either Boris Karloff OR  Carlos Monzon on fight day.
I believe I heard this morning that there is to be STILL ANOTHER  DEBATE.  I don't know if it is Republican or Democrat but I am damn near debated out.  The debate coverages are starting to remind me of the NFL Sunday pre-game and post-game shows.  The media mutts tell us what we can expect to see on the debates;  then we are subjected to about two hours of screaming and bad mouthing and whining;   then  the media mutts return to tell us just exactly what it was that we just watched..... since we are all to stupid to figure it out for ourselves......  This is generally the time that I am ready to knock Karl Rove's fat ass out of his clothes..... But that might be more than any of us could stomach.
